Train to Busan is a 2016 Korean zombie action film from director Yeon Sang Ho and it starred Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi, Ma Dong-seok, Choi Woo-sik, An So-hee, Kim Eui-sung and Kim Su-an.
Thanks to AllKPop.com – we now know that there’s an upcoming sequel to one of the greatest zombie films EVER MADE – Train to Busan. The working title or codename for the project which is set to begin filming during the first half of 2019 will be ‘Peninsula’.
“We are planning to begin filming in the first half of next year. We still have not cast any actors, so we are still preparing a lot of different things.” said a rep for director Yeon Sang Ho.
The source also confirmed that none of the original cast will return for the sequel and that the scope of the movie will tackle the entire Korean peninsula as opposed to ‘mostly’ just the train from the first film. This makes me REALLY excited to see the size and scale of what Yeon Sang Ho is planning to put on the screen in Train to Busan 2 or ‘Peninsula’ as it’s being called in the early stages of development. The zombies in Train to Busan were SCARY as Hell and yes – they may have been FAST zombies as opposed to the traditional ones from Romero-lore, but they really worked well here and the movie was a break-neck thriller with legit frightening and moving performances all around.
Train to Busan is hands down one of the best zombie flicks ever made – easily. You can currently check it out on Netflix (apologies if your region doesn’t have it) and get prepared for one of the craziest and most entertaining horror movies in years. Director Yeon Sang Ho crafted something very special with that movie and I’m ecstatic that he’s planning a sequel that will show a larger scale invasion of the zombie virus as opposed to just the train from the first flick. (though you can argue that the train station sequences were pretty damn harrowing and will give you a good idea of what scale will look like in ‘Peninsula’.
