New Trailer: ‘mother!’ Looks Like Another Unique, Fearsome Film from Darren Aronofsky

Darren Aronofsky’s latest could have one of the best screenplays of the year.

Darren Aronofsky’s latest could also feature one of the year’s best screenplays.

NOTE: We won’t write articles for every trailer that’s released. Just the ones we think are significant enough to talk about.

When I first saw the poster for mother! earlier this year, I could barely contain my excitement; it is the most thought-provoking poster of 2017. Today, we got our first trailer for mother! and it looks absolutely incredible. The trailer did a good job of not showing too much, but it was still very attention grabbing.

Darren Aronofsky is known for making oddly thought-provoking films. mother! looks like it is going to have its share of twists and turns, combined with some horror. Based on the trailer, one could even say the screenplay has many layers, which should make for a great movie-going experience.

The thing that has me most excited about mother! is the talent, both behind and in front of the camera. Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem are extremely talented, diverse actors. If you combine them with the directing talents of Darren Aronofsky, then your chances for a great result are likely high. In the trailer, there are a few scenes that hint at Bardem possibly stealing the show; he’s a scary good actor.

I really liked the score in the trailer as well. It seems very subtle, yet spooky. That, combined with the font style of the title, makes for a very interesting aesthetic. I have a feeling that I’m going to be creeped out the entire time.

There aren’t many directors that I legitimately get excited about, but Aronofsky is one of them. I really hope that Paramount Pictures does not release another trailer for mother! because I’ve already seen enough to buy an opening night ticket for this movie.

A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. Paramount Pictures will release mother! in theaters on September 15.
