After The New Trailer, The Shape of Water is Shaping Up To Be a Major Oscar Contender

by | Sep 15, 2017

Guillermo Del Toro is known for his unique writing and visually pleasing films. Between Hellboy and the extraordinary Pan’s Labyrinth, his ability to tell a story is undeniable. I will say that ever since Pan’s Labyrinth, he hasn’t made a film that had an impact like it did. We got the official trailer for The Shape of Water on September 14th, and it looks like Del Toro may have another “Pan’s Labyrinth Caliber” film on his hands. The trailer is very thought-provoking and seems to be an extremely abnormal and beautiful love story.

An other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa is trapped in a life of isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda  discover a secret classified experiment.

The Shape of Water is getting a lot of buzz from the TIFF and Venice Film Festival. Critics are calling it “Powerful” and “Stunning.” The trailer really hints at a unique set design and a distinctive story. Del Toro is no stranger to The Academy either, so it is safe to say many Oscar Nominations could be in his future for The Shape of Water.

I really hope The Shape of Water lives up to the hype. Ever since Pan’s Labyrinth in 2006, I’ve been wanting another unparalleled film from Del Toro. Let’s hope The Shape of Water is that movie! Are you guys excited for it? I know I am. December 8th can’t get here fast enough.
