From Universal Pictures, Skybound Entertainment, producers David Alpert, Robert Kirkman and director Max Landis, comes the remake of John Landis’ Academy Award winner An American Werewolf in London (1981). Release date and stars have not been announced yet.
Deadline announced today that Max Landis is indeed working on a remake of his father’s classic horror film An American Werewolf in London. Landis had teased that he was geared up for this remake earlier this year on Twitter saying, “There’s only one of my dad’s movies I’d ever be willing to try to remake and I’m already doing it.”
Max Landis recently created the BBC America TV adaptation of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, starring Samuel Barnett and Elijah Wood. He also made his feature film debut in 2015 with the comedy Me Him Her.
The original An American Werewolf in London won the Academy Award for ‘best makeup & hairstyling’ couresy of the legendary Rick Baker when it came out and that infamous transformation sequence is still hands down the greatest werewolf scene ever filmed. Hell – it is arguably the best practical effects sequence in the history of film.
