Artemis Fowl is an upcoming Disney live-action film based on the novel by Eoin Colfer and directed by Kenneth Branagh. Starring Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Judi Dench, Josh Gad, Nonso Anozie, Tamara Smart and Miranda Raison, the film hits theaters August 9, 2019.

ARTEMIS FOWL follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.

I’m not familiar with the novel Artemis Fowl, but what I do know about myself, is that I’m a sucker for underground fantasy realms thanks to breathtaking films like Hellboy II — soooo, after seeing the first teaser trailer — I’m in. It doesn’t hurt to have the man who brought Thor to the bigscreen for the first time, Mr. Kenneth Branagh directing either. I like the visual style here as well, which looks like a combination of science fiction and fantasy with rifles that could be straight out of the Halo franchise.

Bonus: Nonso Anozie whips out a crystal bow and arrow and blasts something with it which looks pretty damn cool. Consider me on board with Artemis Fowl – I think it looks dope and I’m craving a great live-action fantasy driven Disney flick that isn’t all hype and zero payoff – cough cough, A Wrinkle In Time.
