From Starz, creator Sam Raimi and new showrunner Mark Verheiden (Daredevil) comes the Ash Vs. Evil Dead TV series. It stars Bruce Campbell, Lucy Lawless, Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo, Arielle Carver-O’Neill and Ted Raimi. The TV series follows the iconic Ash as he comes out of retirement to battle the deadites once more. Season three returns February 25, 2018.
The third season finds Ash’s status in Elk Grove, Michigan has changed from murderous urban legend to humanity-saving hometown hero. When Kelly witnesses a televised massacre with Ruby’s fingerprints all over it, she returns with a new friend to warn Ash and Pablo that evil isn’t done with them yet. Blood is thicker than water in the battle of good vs Evil Dead!
After showrunner Craig DiGregorio departed the show due to creative differences at the end of season 2 (he wanted Ash Vs. Evil Dead to be more funny, and the producers wanted more horror), it looks like we’ll find out if that was the right choice next February when Mark Verheiden takes over. I personally don’t think this is the right move, because let’s face it – which movies in the original film trilogy stand out to you? The first one which was more frightening? Or the sequel and the equally zany Army of Darkness? See what I mean? Season 2 was hysterical and an incredibly high benchmark for the series, so although I’m excited for season 3, I’m worried we’ll be losing some of that gross out comedy gold. The morgue sequence in season 2? Arguably the best scene in all of television last year.
Season 3 apparently introduces Ash’s long lost daughter Brandy Barr (played by newcomer Arielle Carver-O’Neill) so I’m curious how that plays out. Ruby is going back to being a villain, and I’m optimistic that was a good creative decision too. I love the school setting (check out the New York Comic-Con photo below!). The creepy blood-soaked mascot is also wonderful, let’s just hope Sam Raimi and producer Rob Tapert have made the right call. Because I’m still bummed out that Craig DiGregorio left when he was doing such an amazing job.
