Thanks to We Got This Covered, we have some plot details for the upcoming Avatar sequels which look to begin filming this summer according to actor Sam Worthington who plays Jake in the first film.

“They’re going to be shooting concurrently. The plan is to have some time in between, I think, but these things are always ambiguous until they start. We’re still set to start in the summer, though. James needed time to perfect the scripts. Whenever he says jump I go because he’s the man. I’ve read all the scripts, they’re great. This is going to be Jake eight years later, and he’s got a family now. This film is going to be like nothing you’ve ever seen. The world is bigger than the first one, but essentially, it’s a movie about family. Jake will still have that essence of a kid seeing the world for the first time, but he’s been living in the world for a while now, so what’s this world he’s seeing now for the first time? The film will explore that within this family dynamic,” said Worthington.

James Cameron recently mentioned that his cast is scheduled to hit the motion capture stages this August and that he’s finished perfecting the scripts for Avatar 2,3,4 and 5. If that sounds like a lot of sequels — it sure is. Cameron also mentioned that he wants to shoot them all at the same time, with small breaks inbetween but that he’s focused on every sequel equally.

I love Avatar. I’m not a hater – I went to see the first film THREE FREAKING TIMES in theaters. It is still the greatest 3D movie experience I’ve ever had and I think the most groundbreaking science fiction epic of it’s time since the original Star Wars trilogy. I’m excited to see what Cameron does here since he seems completely dedicated to seeing Avatar succeed as a franchise and this family dynamic and time-jump is very appealing to me. Not to mention – Cameron’s sequels have been DAMN LEGENDARY. (Terminator 2, Aliens).
