Deadwood Movie Confirmed by HBO – FINALLY!

by | Jan 8, 2016

Deadwood was an HBO original series created by David Milch that took place in iconic town of the same name and starred Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Brad Dourif, Garret Dillahunt, Molly Parker, John Hawkes, Paula Malcomson, Dayton Callie and more. It ran for three seasons before being abruptly cancelled despite mass critical acclaim.

After executing his last act of justice as a Montana Marshall, Seth Bullock relocates to a gold-mining camp known as Deadwood, where he and partner Sol Star look to start a hardware business. Bullock soon crosses paths with another new arrival – legendary gunfighter Wild Bill Hickok – and clashes with the formidable boss of the Gem Saloon and occasional deal broker, Al Swearengen.

YES! This past August, actor Garrett Dillahunt broke word that HBO was talking seriously (again) about reviving Deadwood as a feature film in order to finally tie up all those loose ends from the cliffhangers in that third season finale. It looks like that was definitely the case because HBO programming president Michael Lombardo has confirmed that a Deadwood movie is GOING TO HAPPEN.

“David (Milch) has our commitment that we are going to do it. He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be — and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen. The understanding is that when he is done with [his current project] he will turn his attention to [writing the] script for the ‘Deadwood’ film.” said Lombardo to TVLine.

The two main cast members from Deadwood were Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane along with a wealth of other incredible talents so wrangling them all back together might be tricky, but from the sounds of it they were a close crew. When asked about assembling the original actors Lombardo said:

“I’m going to leave that in David’s hands. He’s confident he will be able to. The cast is unbelievably [tight]. Some casts and creators form a bond that becomes relevant for the rest of their lives. This was a defining moment for a lot of them.”
