Donald Glover to Play Simba in The Lion King Remake & James Earl Jones Returns as Mufasa

From Walt Disney Studios and director Jon Favreau, who helmed the hugely successful The Jungle Book live adaptation, comes yet another live-action reboot of The Lion King. There is no release date yet at this time but the project is being fast-tracked into production and so far it stars Donald Glover (Simba) and James Earl Jones (Mufasa).

Lion cub and future king Simba searches for his identity. His eagerness to please others and penchant for testing his boundaries sometimes gets him into trouble.

Director Jon Favreau dropped two glorious bombs over Twitter today revealing that none other than Donald Glover (Atlanta) will be voicing Simba and James Earl Jones would be returning as Mufasa. Fans of course know that Jones was the voice of Mufasa in the original 1994 animated classic. I didn’t even have Glover on my radar – at all. I had Nick Jonas pegged for the part after seeing him in GOAT and realising the dude can act AND sing. Glover is on another level though – a singer, rapper, artist, actor, performer, visionary, comedian, writer, director – he literally does EVERYTHING and he WINS every time. I love the choice. Bravo Favreau – nailed it.
