E3 2015 Microsoft Xbox Recap: Hololens, Halo 5, Gears of War 4 & Rise of The Tomb Raider

by | Jun 16, 2015

At the end of the Xbox press conference, Phil Spencer said it best himself. “If you’ve been waiting to make the switch from your Xbox 360, now is the time”. And boy was he right! Xbox blew the world away today with their E3 2015 panel. We saw incredible looking new games and got to see some of the exciting new features coming to the Xbox One.

I think some of the most exciting parts about the Xbox conference weren’t even about new games coming out but instead about some of the new features of the Xbox One. Today at E3 it was announced that Xbox One will be backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games. They will have a wide array of games available for digital download or you can play your old physical copies of Xbox 360 games.

On the hardware side of things a new wireless Xbox controller was shown called Xbox One Elite Controller. The exciting thing about this new controller is the addition of hair triggers and interchangeable parts and for custom layouts. Microsoft has recently announced a partnership with Oculus Rift allowing players to use the Xbox One controller with their headset and now Microsoft has announced a new partnership with Valve VR with hopes of making Windows 10 the best Virtual Reality gaming platform.

Alright, alright, now the part you have been looking forward to since the last E3… NEW GAMES!!!

Halo 5: Guardians started things off featuring voice acting by Nathan Fillion . Unfortunately no local co-op but the online play looks like its going to be very fun. The game launches on October 27th 2015.

ReCore, a new game from the makers of Metroid Prime called  had a short trailer that looks pretty interesting. The game appears to be about a girl and her robot dog living in some kind of desert wasteland where technology has a mind of its own.

Forza 6 looks as amazing as always only even prettier with the Xbox Ones new hardware.

Dark Souls 3 was announced but not much info was given.

Tom Clancy’s The Division got an awesome new trailer and Xbox One players will now be able to sign up for a beta and play the game in December.

Rainbow Six Siege finally got a release date set for October 13th 2015 and looks like its going to be as great as I hoped it would be. For Xbox players the game will also include Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2.

Rise of The Tomb Raider was premiered and also got a release date for November 10th 2015. This is probably the game I was looking forward to the most and I can not believe how good it looks.

Rare Replay is a collection of 30 games from game studio Rare combined on one disk for $30 all playable on the Xbox one. It includes many insanely famous titles like Perfect Dark, Battle Toads, Banjo Kazooie and Conker’s Bad Fur Day.

Minecraft HoloLens will be a new game playable on HoloLens that lets you move the game onto any surface you choose with virtual reality and gives you new perspectives on the world.

Gears of War 4 was the final game shown and was said to be coming out in the 2016 holiday season.  A Gears of War Ultimate Edition will be coming out in August and will be a 1080, 60fps remaster of the original 3 games. 2884956-chj1b8hukaadu2s.png-large

It seems Xbox really stepped up their game this year by focusing on games and less on watching TV which is smart. Xbox’s new venture into virtual reality could become just another gimmick but impressed the hell out of me an it certainly looks like its worth keeping an eye on.
