Why?
I liked Thanos in the comics, but after seeing Avengers: Infinity War over the weekend, turns out I LOVE THANOS. That was his movie and Josh Brolin’s mo-cap performance was so good and so deep, that he’s officially not only the best villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the BEST CHARACTER OVERALL. I SAID IT. DEAL WITH IT. Thanos is remarkable, a villain so evil, so terrifying and so powerful that you truly feel hopeless watching him decimate every single hero that comes near him, including a vicious battle with one of the strongest Avengers before the title credit drops in the film.
Darkseid could have given him a run for his money movie-wise, but for some reason they decided to cut his appearance in the Justice League film adaptation, blowing any chance we’ll likely have of seeing him onscreen any time soon. So for now, we need to only talk about Darkseid from the comics, cartoons and maybe videogames if you’re feeling crazy. My personal favourite Darkseid appearance is when Weird Al voiced him on an episode of Teen Titans Go. How does one beat Dark Al Yankoseid? You can’t. He’s far too intimidating.
I recently became a fan of Thanos because of comic writer Don Cates, whose recent storyline ‘Thanos Wins’ has officially become the best Marvel arc in years. If you were on the fence about Thanos – read the new series and wait until you get to issue 13… That’s where Cates comes in and revitalises the Marvel villain. 2018 is the year of Thanos. From the Infinity War movie, to his groundbreaking latest comic book adventures, there’s no denying that Thanos is the more popular character right now, but I have to say that I think he would take this fight against Darkseid as well. Both are godlike badguys, but only one has the Infinity Gauntlet — the most powerful weapon in the history of comic books. If you don’t know what this thing is capable of, just know that it’s even more frightening than you could ever imagine. I won’t spoil the Infinity War movie, but I will say that if it were to come down to Darkseid going toe to toe with the mad titan Thanos – there’s no f***ing way he has a chance. Thanos Wins!
Winner: THANOS
