GOD COUNTRY Vol. 1
The first of many series that launched writer Donny Cates into the comic spotlight. God Country is a story of a grandfather suffering from dementia, who acquires an enchanted sword, Valofax, from another world. The problem is the owner of the sword wants it back. This is a heartfelt book of family struggle, but also has a ton a amazing action scenes by Geoff Shaw.

This book is visually stunning, Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer masterfully put together an engaging story of a divided world. Power hungry clans are feuding with one another, and events of the past ignite a vengeful war.

HEATHEN Vol. 1
One of my favourite series of 2017, from my favourite new comic publisher. Heathen is a story about Aydis, a viking warrior, set on rescueing the immortal Valkyrie Brynhild. She is an outcast on a quest to end the reign of Odin. Written and illustrated by Natasha Alterici, this book is a must buy gift.

This book collects issues one through six of this psychedelically coloured comic series. After escaping here world and travelling across galaxies, Loma takes control of the body of Megan. As if being a high school student wasn’t difficult enough, Loma has to battle the madness brought on by the special coat that brought her to Earth. Cecil Castellucci’s writing is full of emotion and the art team of Marley Zarcone and Kelly Fitzpatrick really do take the reader on a visual trip.
CURSE WORDS Vol. 1
If you like a blast of colour, be sure to also check out Curse Words, by Charles Soule and Ryan Browne. Wizord comes to Earth and takes on a new career as a wizard for hire. But in a style similar to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, a number of fellow magic folks are sent to confront Wizord. A plot filled with secrets, spells and even a talking koala named Margaret, this book is full of dark-comedy, and fantastical action.
