FIGHT TO THE DEATH RESULTS!

Which Film is better? Braveheart or Gladiator?

Social Media Votes: Gladiator

Keven Votes: Braveheart

Another tie? Yeah unfortunately and this is our first one since ET versus Gizmo where both cute little puppets hugged each other until they each died. Look – I knew this would be a close battle but I had no idea how close it would turn out to be. Social media votes were neck and neck through every round but Gladiator had a late push that launched fan votes to put Ridley Scott’s epic into the lead. After revisiting both movies in 4K UHD, I’ve come to realise that Braveheart is in fact the better film. If you were to check out Rotten Tomatoes today you’d also notice that both are tied as well sitting at a lower than expected 77% each. Really? 77% only? They also each won FIVE Oscars, including Best Picture! Both movies are historical action epics on a scale that most current movies can’t reach anymore unless they have Marvel Studios on the introduction. I grew up loving both and although I would have said Gladiator was the better movie in my younger days, Braveheart is the far superior movie in my humble opinion now.

Mel Gibson, love him or hate him or forget him because he’s old and crazy (though you forgave him pretty damn quick when you all went to see that piece of shit Daddy’s Home 2 – aka the worst movie I’ve seen in a decade) — he made one helluva flick with Braveheart. Gladiator will go down in history as Russel Crowe’s finest hour I think, and it’s also a revenge story at it’s core much like Braveheart, but the movie drags. I don’t think I’ve been able to actually sit through it more than twice. Ever. It just doesn’t have the replay-ability factor that Gibson’s Braveheart has, which is paced way better and I think carries more solid and relatable supporting performances by a stellar cast. Maybe new series like Spartacus spoiled the theme of Gladiator with their over-the-top spectacular action scenes and riveting storylines, or maybe Gibson just made a damn good movie – either way Braveheart is better. However when it comes to the 4K UHD transfer, Gladiator looks more crisp, so if this were battle of 4K Blu-rays, Gladiator would take it. Not to mention the sound was thunderous and more intense in Gladiator as well. But it all comes down to the performances, story and pacing with Gibson’s Scottish Warrior epic for me. In the end – it’s a tie. Both movies are Best Picture winner classics – and this one was just too damn close to call.

Winner: TIE!
