Golden Globes 2017 Results: The Night Manager, La La Land & Meryl Streep Win Big

The 74th Annual Golden Globes were handed out last night January 8th, 2017 and Netflix’ drama series The Crown shocked many by upsetting favorites like Game of Thrones or This is Us after winning Best Drama Series, while Meryl Streep’s stunning Anti-Trump speech stole the evening as she accepted her life-time achievement award. Read the full list of winners HERE!

Well I guess I finally need to watch AMC’s The Night Manager – because I did NOT see that coming at all. I’ve heard the mini-series was great, but it kind of flew under the radar in 2016 amidst a flurry of flashier programming. The spy drama cleaned house with performers Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman and Hugh Laurie winning acting prizes on the evening. Actress Claire Foy won Best Actress for portraying the Queen in Netflix’s latest historic drama ‘The Crown’, which also won ‘Best Drama’ of the evening.

La La Land slayed the evening winning in every single category that it was nominated for, while Moonlight took home ‘Best Drama’, which means those two films will likely go head to head at the Oscars this year. I’ve yet to see either of those, but now I really, REALLY have to see La La Land don’t I? The previews looked dreadful, but I guess it’s mandatory viewing at this point. Plus – Sean, named it his favorite film of 2016.

The real winner of last night’s show was Meryl Streep, who took the time to deliver a stunning anti-Donald Trump speech, focusing on the time he mocked a disabled reporter during his campaign. Streep is a goddess and hands down the greatest female actress of our time – arguably the best ever really and I loved what she had to say here in what will no doubt be one of the most memorable awards show speeches OF ALL TIME. It was that good. Check it out.
