A live-action feature film adaptation of the classic Jonny Quest cartoon series is in the works at Warner Bros. from director Robert Rodriguez who will co-write the script with Terry Rossio (The Lone Ranger).
Dr. Benton Quest is a research scientist who is frequently called upon for missions that require his scientific and technical expertise. He is usually accompanied by his son Jonny, his tutor/bodyguard Race Bannon, their bulldog with the distinctive mask-like eye markings named Bandit, and Hadji, an Indian orphan who has special abilities of his own. Together, they investigate mysteries, perform rescues and battle nefarious villains around the world, most notably Dr. Zin.
Dan Lin (The LEGO Movie) and Adrian Askarieh (Hitman: Agent 47) are set to produce the Jonny Quest film. Both Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron have been attached to star in previously failed attempts to adapt the cartoon in a live-action format. I’ve not watched a single episode of Jonny Quest so I have no idea what to expect aside from a lot of green screens and neat-o lasers. My closest experience would be the clever parody and homage from the brilliant Venture Bros. series on Adult Swim.
