[Press Release] HULU’s HULUWEEN short film festival comes to an end and the sole Canadian entry CARVED by Justin Harding, came out the winner!
The month of October Hulu celebrated Huluween with a short film festival where 8 films were selected from around the world, including one from Toronto, Canada.
The filmmaker with the highest level of viewer engagement and highest scores from a panel of expert judges – including Friday the 13th’s “Jason Voorhees” actor Kane Hodder, season four winner of RuPaul’s “Drag Race” Sharon Needles and Bloody Disgusting’s Brad Miska – wins $10,000 towards production of their feature length film.
And the winner is….
From Toronto, Canada
CARVED
Directed & Written by: Justin Harding
Produced by: Kris Elsley, Dale Andrews, Rob Brunner & Jason Kennedy
Panel comments:
Brad Miska: Probably the most crazed of the shorts, Carved goes full-on weird with an effects-fueled Halloween-themed story that unapologetically goes all the way to ten. This short was nuts.
Kane Hodder: Carved has interesting characters throughout a cleverly structured story. Acting was on point and I was particularly impressed with the special effects and the choices made by the DP and director of certain important shots in the film.
Sharon Needles: This is truly a slice of pumpkin pie. This beautifully shot gem has a gnarly twisted twist. It will have you blowing your top. Gutsy!
The 8 filmmakers were selected from a pool of 30, and they were given money and just two weeks to come up with a horror short.
Justin Harding is part of The Bokeh Collective and their critically acclaimed short film, Latched, premiered at TIFF 2017, that continues to tour festivals around the globe, and was just earlier this week selected as Vimeo’s STAFF PICK.
No stranger to the concept of terror-and-children, Justin’s HULUWEEN entry, CARVED. once again features a seemingly innocuous subject matter turned on its head.
