Kevin Smith Hails Ben Affleck as “The Best Batman We’ve Seen so Far” in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

From director Zack Snyder (Watchmen) comes Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, the sequel to Man of Steel and based loosely on the classic Frank Miller series The Dark Knight Returns. The film will hit theatres March 25, 2016 and stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Jessie Eisenberg.

Kevin Smith (Mallrats 2, Yoga Hosers) has given some high praise for Ben Affleck before his upcoming role as Bruce Wayne in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Speaking with Variety, Smith said “Sight away, he’s the best looking Batman we’ve ever seen,” because of the visual inspiration taken from Frank Miller’s acclaimed The Dark Knight Returns mini-series.

“The hardest thing to nail about Batman is Bruce Wayne, because that’s where you’ve got no mask and where you’ve got to be a human being. But that dude is Bruce Wayne, so he’s born to play that role.” said Smith. He went on to say that his friendship with Affleck has nothing to do with his praise for the performer as the two haven’t spoken to one another in years. After Daredevil, Affleck had told Smith to never let him play a costumed hero again and Smith was close to calling the actor when he was announced to play Batman but ultimately decided against it. “Now it looks like he is the best Batman we’ve seen so far,” said Smith.

Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs.  And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
