According to The Wrap it looks like Marvel Studios is looking to hire acclaimed director Ava DuVernay for one of their upcoming ‘diverse’ big screen adaptations which leads us to believe that would be Black Panther or Captain Marvel which focus on African American and female led characters respectively.
DuVernay’s last big screen effort was the Academy Award winning film Selma, which was about Martin Luther King Jr., but her latest project is developing a TV series for Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network titled Queen Sugar. Both sides have expressed interest according to the source although it looks like DuVernay may be leaning towards helming Black Panther which already has it’s lead in Chadwick Boseman (who will first appear as the character in Captain America: Civil War). Rumors have been swirling that Angelina Jolie has been approached to direct Captain Marvel as well.
