Max Von Sydow to Play The Three-Eyed Raven in Game of Thrones Season 6

by | Aug 3, 2015

Game of Thrones is an adaptation of the epic dark fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire from writer George R.R. Martin. The series airs exclusively on HBO and stars Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke.

After the fantastic announcement that Ian McShane (Ray Donovan, Deadwood) has joined the upcoming season of Game of Thrones in a mysterious role (I’m thinking Greyjoy but I’m making an educated guess), it looks like veteran actor Max Von Sydow has also joined the ranks. The upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor will play the Three-Eyed Raven — aka that creepy old man attached to the tree which Bran Stark encountered in the finale of Game of Thrones season 4.

The Three Eyed Raven is a mentor to the young Stark boy and in the closing moments of the last time we saw him (played by a different actor in season 4), the Three-Eyed Raven said that Bran wouldn’t learn to walk again — but that he would instead fly.

Nice.

Both Sydow and McShane will apparently have limited screentime but that during their scenes, both characters will have extremely important moments when Game of Thrones season six airs.
