From Twentieth Century Fox and directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Catfish, Nerve) comes the big screen adaptation of the beloved Capcom gaming franchise Mega Man. Chernin Entertainment is producing the upcoming movie alongside Heroes actor Masi Oka.
In the original series, Mega Man is an android originally named Rock, created as a lab assistant by the scientist Dr. Light with Dr Wily as his assistant. Following treachery by Dr. Wily in which he reprogrammed most of Dr Light’s robots, Rock volunteered to be converted into a fighting robot to defend the world from Wily’s violent robotic threats. Thus becoming Mega Man.
THR is reporting that filmmakers Henry Joost and Ariel Shulman are in final negotiations to direct a film adaptation of Mega Man. What content or story is going to make its way into a film adaptation is beyond me since they’ve been making Mega Man games since 1987, but it seems like a cool idea. I’m also not sure if this will be an animated feature, but from the sounds of it… No?
I also had no idea that the dudes who made the internet dating documentary Catfish (which I loved) were directing other films since then either — including Nerve, which starred little Franco and Emma Roberts. I know what we’re all hoping REALLY happens though — we get a spiritual successor to the live-action 1993 Super Mario Bros. flick.
