Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters July 5, 2019 from Marvel Studios and director Jon Watts. The film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Keaton, J.B. Smoove, Numan Acar, Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders.

Peter Parker and his friends go on summer vacation to Europe, where Peter finds himself trying to save his friends against a villain known as Mysterio.

So we aren’t allowed to see ANY action or get barely ANY glimpses of heroes from the follow-up to Infinity War – Avengers: Endgame, which hits theaters BEFORE Spider-Man: Far From Home, but we can get a fully loaded and action-packed preview of a film taking place AFTER those events featuring Spidey after he was DEFINITELY wiped from existence last year? Sure why not. They aren’t dead guys – and I think Marvel is starting to grasp that the fans aren’t that stupid. I hope anyway.

At least we get to see Jake Gyllenhaal suited up as the villainous Mysterio in this first preview for Jon Watts’ follow-up to the beloved Spider-Man: Homecoming. He looks great, he wears the signature fishbowl too in this trailer and it looks just as dorky as it did in the comics, but if cinematic Black Manta taught us anything – it’s that giant helmets CAN look badass in live-action. I wasn’t a huge fan of the film preceding this one — Homecoming, although I will admit that they did an admirable job considering they had to tie this franchise back to the other films but I’m really finding that tedious to be honest. I’ll watch anything with Gyllenhaal though and I’m very much looking forward to see what he does as the villain here. If it doesn’t work out – at least we’ll have Velvet Buzzsaw, which looks like the far better Gyllenhaal flick anyway and features paintings coming to life to murder people. That or we can just keep overplaying our Blu-ray copies of Into The Spiderverse for the next year and we’ll all be OK.
