From Disney and director Ron Howard, comes Solo: A Star Wars Story, which chronicles the adventures of a young Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian. Starring Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Joonas Suotamo, Thandie Newton and Paul Bettany, the film hits theaters May 25, 2018.
Through a series of daring escapades, young Han Solo meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian.
I’m going on record to say right now that this latest ‘story’ trailer for the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story is the best preview for a film in the franchise yet. I know that the production surrounding this latest Star Wars spin-off has been plagued with more issues than I can count, but if this trailer is any indication – Ron Howard may have saved a doomed movie with his extensive re-shoots. I love the music, the characters all look intriguing, Donald Glover’s Lando drops the best line (which I won’t spoil for you if you haven’t seen it yet) and we get to see a lot of Han and Chewie bonding time, including a moment where the wookie is hanging out of the train and Han is reaching to save his buddy.
My god – all the emotions – all the rogues – all the wookie slams – this is the Star Wars crime saga we’ve been waiting for. After The Last Jedi pushed the boundaries of what Star Wars die-hards were comfortable with last year, Solo looks more in line with Rogue One and the classics, which isn’t a bad thing. I think there’s room for Star Wars movies to grow and evolve as well as pay homage to the classics and their backstories.
