From OATS STUDIOS and director Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) comes OATS: Volume 1. This will be a series of short science fiction films, released periodically on the game service STEAM with the purpose of turning popular movies into full feature length projects. Stars set to appear in the films include Sigourney Weaver, Dakota Fanning and more!
Reptilian creatures, aliens, people shooting aliens, the Eiffel Tower overgrown with weeds and more can be found in this intriguing and action-packed teaser that showcases several upcoming short films from OATS STUDIOS. The idea for this project comes from Neill Blomkamp who posed the question over Twitter in April, 2017 on whether or not fans would watch short films over STEAM with the possibility of a few turning into full-length movies.
Now that Blomkamp’s potential Alien film seems to be dead according to Ridley Scott, it appears the director is venturing into some more experimental territory in order to make more movies by utilising the online gaming platform STEAM. The trailer is entirely fascinating, it looks incredible and I can’t wait to see any and all of these little films. Although Blomkamp’s feature length movies have progressively gotten less impressive after his cult classic District 9, I’m still a huge fan of his visual style and I think OATS STUDIOS has some massive potential, especially since the director has done great things with his short film work in the past.
