From Legendary Pictures, Universal Pictures and director Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Daredevil) comes the highly anticipated Pacific Rim: Uprising. John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.

I have to tell you… I was worried that Pacific Rim Uprising wouldn’t look as sharp as it’s predecessor. I assumed it would have a lower budget — you know all of that nonsense. Well, even if it did, the final product looks just as impressive as Del Toro’s film. Not only does it look just as sweet, it also looks just as silly. But that’s part of the charm. This is a movie about gigantic manned robots fighting huge monsters. I liked this trailer a lot, even if it was over the top. I trust in Steven DeKnight as a filmmaker and I’ve been a fan of his since Spartacus, which is one of the greatest TV series ever produced. John Boyega as the lead is a great move and let’s face it – I’m a sucker for gigantic action spectacles and Pacific Rim Uprising looks better than both of the latest Transformers flicks. Let’s also not forget that Charlie Day is back and he killed it the first time around.
