Release The Snyder Cut Campaign Finally Gains Cred after Justice League Cast Gets Involved

It’s been over two years since Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released to mixed reviews and a troubled production which saw the filmmaker leaving directorial duties to Joss Whedon in order to bail and deal with a family tragedy three quarters of the way through production. Now stars from the film – Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher and many more are sharing the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut to gain momentum that would allow Snyder to return to the film and complete his original vision.

Look. I liked the Justice League movie but I understand Zack Snyder’s frustration in having his original vision scrapped in favor of a final product that was ultimately leaner and likely more “Marvel-ized” than he had intended initially. Snyder’s previous DC film work was very dark and gritty, something that the rival studio Marvel tends to stay away from in order to produce more uplifting and less violent superhero movies. Joss Whedon came from that world having directed the first two Avengers films, so when he arrived to help finish the Justice League movie, you can feel his influence from that other world.

For years now, angry internet trolls have been chanting for Warner Bros to release the Snyder Cut, in reference to Zack’s original film which would most definitely have been longer, stranger and more in line with the films that came before it. After doing a quick wiki search it looks like some of those scenes that were scrapped include:

So needless to say, most of us level-headed movie fans wrote this Snyder Cut off as a pipedream campaign led by vicious basement dwelling losers – until today. When Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck start demanding Warner Bros to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut – then we must actually begin to pay attention. Not long after, Snyder himself retweeted Gadot and Affleck in agreement while several other Hollywood elite lent their voices to the cause as well, including people not even involved with the film.

So… I would be shocked at this point if the Snyder Cut argument is ignored any longer. With HBO Max gearing up to launch in 2020, it would be a safe bet that this new version of Justice League (aka the original version we never got to see) is bound to see the light on such a streaming service sooner than later.
