#SDCC2016 Day 1 Recap: Iron Fist, Luke Cage & The Defenders Trailers

Day 1 of San Diego Comic Con 2016 has come to a close, capping off with a slew of Marvel and Netflix teasers for their highly anticipated new series; Plus some Voltron Season 2 news and more!

In addition to the fantastic new teasers for Iron Fist, Luke Cage and The Defenders below – it was also revealed that Daredevil has been renewed for a third season today and will also be returning in 2017 – making for an extremely busy slate for Marvel and Netflix next year…

Iron Fist Teaser & Poster Revealed

From Netflix, Marvel Studios and showrunner Scott Buck (Dexter, Rome), comes Iron Fist. Finn Jones will star as the title hero in the upcoming original series which debuts in 2017 and also stars Tom Pelphrey, David Wenham, Jessica Henwick and Jessica Stroup.

Luke Cage Kicks Ass to Ol’ Dirty Bastard in First Teaser

From Marvel Studios and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker comes the new Netflix original series Luke Cage. The show stars Mike Colter in the title role with supporting cast-mates Mahershala Ali, Theo Rossi, Alfre Woodard, Simone Missick, Frank Whaley and Frankie Faison. It is set to premiere September 30th, 2016.

The Defenders Can’t Even Save Themselves in First Teaser

From Netflix and Marvel Studios, comes the highly anticipated series ‘The Defenders’ which will assemble Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist into one show. From showrunners Douglas Petrie (Marvel’s Daredevil) and Marco Ramirez (Marvel’s Daredevil) the series will debut in 2017.

Voltron Season 2 Release Confirmed!

From Dreamworks, producers Joaquim Dos Santos/Lauren Montgomery (The Legend of Korra) and Netflix comes the animated series Voltron: Legendary Defender. Starring Kimberly Brooks, Rhys Darby, Josh Keaton, Tyler Labine, Jeremy Shada, Bex Taylor-Klaus and Steven Yeun. All 11 season one episodes will be available to stream on Netflix with season 2 slated for late 2016.

During their panel today at San Diego Comic Con 2016, it was revealed that Voltron: Legendary Defender will be back as early as later this year for a second season! Joined by surprise guest Steven Yeun at the panel, the news broke that we’d be getting new episodes much sooner than initially expected. Check out some teaser art below:


The Strain Season 3 Drops a Music Video? Called Vamps Boom? Featuring the cast singing and rapping? Ummm…

I have to say – if nothing else but completely unexpected, it’s hilarious seeing David Bradley dropping some rhymes. Apparently much of the lyrics were written by Kevin Durand and Miguel Gomez. I don’t know what the hell is going on either but I appreciate the humor here.

From FX and the minds of Guillermo Del Toro and Carlton Cuse comes the second season in this vampire apocalypse saga ‘The Strain’, which stars Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Mia Maestro, Richard Sammel, Rupert Penry-Jones, Miguel Gomez, Ruta Gedmintas, Natalie Madison Brown, Ben Hyland, Jonathan Hyde and Kevin Durand. Season three (10 Episodes) debuts August 28th.
