Shaggy 2 Dope – FTFOMF: The Psychopathic Soldier Returns & Wages War with New Solo Album (Review)

by | May 26, 2017

From Psychopathic Records comes the long-awaited brand new solo album from one half of Detroit horror-core hip hop underground icons Insane Clown Posse – Shaggy 2 DopeF.T.F.O.M.F‘ aka ‘Fuck The Fuck Off Mother Fucker’. How’s that for subtlety? The album is available now and everywhere as of May 26, 2017.

“Turncoats talkin’ that shit. Never woulda been shit, without the hatchet”

“Thought the grass was greener on the other side, now you’re bent over, ass open wide”

Those might even be some of the tamer lyrics taken from Shaggy 2 Dope’s vicious track ‘Psychopathic Soldier‘, which takes direct aim at Majik Ninja Entertainment… For all the Juggalos out there following the heat – the recent war of words between Insane Clown Posse and their former proteges’ Twiztid (along with their entire label MNE) has taken a turn for the worst. Diss tracks, threats of violence, more diss tracks, whatever you wanna call it – the Juggalo Civil War is in full effect. You can read more about that HERE.

Shaggy 2 Dope has been less vocal about this beef in interviews (mostly because Violent J is the chattier of the ICP duo) but after hearing this song – it’s like Shaggy was just saving it all up and unleashing it like a Juggalo tornado upon us. The Hatchet is not to be taken lightly family – this shit is real. But aside from all of that – let’s talk about the record. FTFOMF is a ridiculous title, but it works and it works because of Shaggy making that shit work. This is an explicit affair loaded with songs about the wicked clown’s massive scrotum (see ‘Stretch Nuts: A Legend Was Born’) or tunes like ‘Electric Kool-Aid’ which delve into excess. The production is flawless thanks to DJ Clay’s contributions and I dare to say that this is some of the best sounding music and beats that Psychopathic Records has ever released.

Believe the hype, Shaggy 2 Dope has dropped one of the strongest efforts in years from the label. FTFOMF sounds like an early 90’s hip hop effort – this is classic rap music – stuff we just don’t hear that much anymore, while still utilising some bizarre samples and effects to keep shit fresh and interesting. I’ve been down with ICP for a long time and I will admit that I’ve been more fond of Violent J’s solo work in past years, but this record has changed my perception entirely. Shaggy 2 Dope has put a lot of thought into this and the result was well worth the wait. If you’ve found yourself at odds with ICP’s last two records leaning towards a more laid back vibe, then FTFOMF brings that wicked shit back into your life with a vengeance.

‘Tell Them Bitches’, ‘Too Dope’ and the title track are my favorite cuts so far but this is an album I’ll be revisiting often. The way Shaggy screams the chorus on the title track is genius too by the way. I think that’s part of the charm – just hearing how Shaggy delivers the vocals by throwing a unique spin on them. FTFOMF is a resounding success and killer start to 2017 for Psychopathic Records in a year that is more important than ever for the wicked clowns.
