THE ADDAMS FAMILY and ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES are now available on Blu-ray either individually or in 2-Movie DVD or Blu-ray Collections — just in time for the new animated feature film hitting theaters October 11th—the kooky, spooky and all-together ooky adventures of the Addams Family are sure to have you screaming…with laughter.

Addams_Family_blurayWhen long-lost Uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd) reappears after 25 years in the Bermuda Triangle, Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Huston) plan a celebration to wake the dead.  But Wednesday (Christina Ricci) barely has time to warm up her electric chair before Thing points out Fester’s uncommonly “normal” behavior. Could this Fester be a fake, part of an evil scheme to raid the Addams fortune?

Addams_Family_Values_blurayIt’s love at first fright when Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Huston) welcome a new addition to the Addams household — Pubert, their soft, cuddly, mustachioed baby boy. As Fester (Christopher Lloyd) falls hard for voluptuous nanny Debbie Jilinksy (Joan Cusack), Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) discover she’s a black-widow murderess who plans to add Fester to her collection of dead husbands.  ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES is debuting on Blu-ray for the first time.

Review:

Here’s the deal. I watched these Addams Family flicks as a kid and I have very fond memories of watching them both, especially Addams Family Values, which I consider to be the superior of the pair. However – I don’t know if re-releasing them in time for the new animated film is going to work when Wednesday Addams (Christina Ricci) replies to a child’s story of how a stork brought his baby brother to him with, “Really? My parents HAD SEX” with this deadpan brilliant delivery. This is the kind of dialog that you could get away with in the late 80’s and early 90’s, but I don’t want my nine year old kids repeating those kinds of one-liners.

The Addams Family flicks are still a blast and although the first one doesn’t hold as well as I hoped it would, there’s still a lot to love with this incarnation of the famous family. Everyone has their era of Addams to love and soon there will be another one as the franchise moves into animated territory, but I feel like these two flicks are my wheelhouse. It’s just a shame that the comedy is still a little risky for the younglings and there’s a lot of sexually charged humour abound in these flicks. Raul Julia my god – what a dude. Can we all just take a moment to remember how damn brilliant he was as an actor? These two films are truly prime Julia and he kills it every single scene with some of the most absurd and beautiful onscreen chemistry one is likely to find with his movie wife played by the gorgeous Anjelica Huston.

I reviewed the two-pack, which houses both films in one Blu-ray sleeve and I suggest that if you decide to pick these suckers up that you do the same. Just know that you’ve been warned of the mature comedy – it’s there and it will make for some uncomfortable moments while watching with the fam. Also – there are no special features which is a shame but I’ve actually never owned either of these movies so putting them in the collection just in time for Halloween is a damn fine idea for anybody who grew up with this as their Addams Family.
