The Best Acting I’ve Ever Seen: Christian Bale in American Psycho

On the first ever edition of ‘The Best Acting I’ve Ever Seen‘ – let’s revisit Christian Bale’s performance in American Psycho (2000).

The Actor: Christian Bale

The Film: American Psycho (2000)

Director: Mary Harron

The Scene: Christian Bale’s character Patrick Bateman is rapidly losing his mind and descending into madness and you know… serial murder! So when he notices a fellow co-worker’s stunning business card (Jared Leto’s card mind you), he begins to freak out over the silliest of details.

My thoughts: There are so many incredible moments in this now 20-year-old film and it’ll always be my favorite Bale performance, but this one moment just makes me howl. It’s both hilarious and terrifying seeing someone lose their absolute shit when they realize that their business card isn’t the hottest one in the room. American Psycho is a cult classic and one of the best movies ever made. Most people would probably choose the ‘Hip to be Square’ scene as their favorite in the movie and for me it absolutely was for the longest time until I realized TODAY that the business card sequence is easily the best display of acting that Christian Bale has EVER done. Deal with it.
