From Cinemax, Seth Rogen/Evan Goldberg (Preacher), Neil Moritz (Fast & Furious) and Eric Kripke (Supernatural) comes the small screen adaptation of the insane comic series The Boys from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

In a world where superheroes exist… However, most of the superheroes in the universe are corrupted by their celebrity status and often engage in reckless behaviour, compromising the safety of the world. For this reason, a super-powered CIA squad, known informally as “The Boys”, is charged with monitoring the superhero community; the name is Butcher’s contribution, a reference from his neighbourhood that those in power would send “the boys” to handle anyone causing trouble.

With the debut of Preacher on AMC set for May 22nd, Deadline is now reporting that the writing/directorial team of Rogen and Goldberg are now tackling another one of comic creator Garth Ennis’ most beloved series – The Boys. However, this adaptation is heading to Cinemax – a network known for pushing the boundaries of television with shows like The Knick and Banshee.

If you’ve read The Boys, you know that it’s just as extreme, if not more-so than Ennis’ Preacher series. The content is outrageous and targets the superhero genre in a way unlink any other series. Ennis is known for his dislike of the overstuffed world of heroes. Whether it’s a speedster who saves the day but ultimately flattens a helpless bystander into a bloody pancake, or an orgy that involves naked supermen lazer-eye blasting airplanes in-between sessions – The Boys is as hardcore as comics can get.
