The Boys Season 2 debuts September 4th only on Amazon Prime from Eric Kripke. The Umbrella Academy season 2 debuts on Netflix July 31st from Steve Blackman and Jeremy Slater.
The Umbrella Academy is a Netflix original series from showrunners Jeremy Slater, Steve Blackman (Fargo, Altered Carbon) and adapted by the Darkhorse Comics series from writer Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Ba. It Stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, and Mary J. Blige.
The Umbrella Academy Synopsis: On one day in 1989, 43 infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who creates the Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. In their teenage years, though, the family fractures and the team disbands. Fast forward to the present time, when the six surviving members of the clan reunite upon the news of Hargreeves’ passing. They work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death, but divergent personalities and abilities again pull the estranged family apart, and a global apocalypse is another imminent threat. The series is based on a collection of comics and graphic novels created and written by My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way.
My Thoughts: I’m a massive fan of Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba’s Darkhorse Comic series of the same name and I thought season 1 was one of the best new shows of last year. The Netflix series took some liberties with the source material but streamlined the insane narrative in a way that made it more accessible (sorta?) to TV audiences and I kinda dig everything that Steve Blackman and Jeremy Slater have done adapting such a strange comic. I’m all the way down for season 2 and I’m excited to see more of the forgotten son Ben, a character we didn’t even see much of in the comic books. I’m kinda bummed out at the lack of Hazel and Cha Cha but I guess they got WAY MORE screentime in season one than I ever expected they would get for the entire series’ run, considering they were only in the comics a short while anyway.

My Thoughts: Just give me more Antony Starr melting people to death as psycho superman and I’ll be satisfied. The Boys was THE BREAKOUT hit of 2019 and not only was it the best adaptation of a Garth Ennis comic series to date (yes it’s better than Preacher), the best thing to come from this show’s success, in my opinion is giving Starr another major headlining role because he never reached as many fans as he should have when he was on Banshee (AKA the greatest action series ever made). The opening few minutes sneakpeak was BRUTAL and gave us some pretty disturbing action, but seeing this latest trailer just makes me smile knowing what chaos awaits this series. I read all the comics but the show has already made some major changes that look to shake up the story in some very significant ways. I’m very curious to see what Eric Kripke and his crew have done with season 2. I mean – lot’s of F***s and death and laser eyes and breast milk and enough Garth Ennis charm to kill an elephant or 10 — there’s really no way to prepare for a show like The Boys. I’m OK with the new weekly episodic format come this Fall too – it gives fans more time to wash off all that gore that explodes from their TV’s anyway. God I love this wild ass crazy shit.
