As you can see, The Flash himself Grant Gustin, with the permission of showrunner Greg Berlanti, has revealed the title of the season three premiere as none other than ‘Flashpoint’. Fans have speculated and now we know for sure, that the CW series will indeed be tackling the insane and brilliant comic arc of the same name. In the comics’ version of Flashpoint, Barry Allen goes back in time to save his mother and therefore causes massive changes to the current timeline, such as Superman being detained by the government and Batman being Thomas Wayne (Bruce’s father) and also – kinda more along the lines of The Punisher than the Dark Knight we all know.
At the end of season 2, Barry does the unthinkable and decides to travel back in time and he kicks Reverse-Flash’s ass, saving his mom and effectively and potentially erasing every damn thing we know about the current timeline. With Supergirl moving to the CW, we can likely expect tons of crossover depending how far the writers plan to carry out Flashpoint storylines since they do involve other heroes from the DC Comics/CW TV universe (and several that haven’t been seen as part of this shared universe – yet).
