The Logan Trailer is Here & it is Stunning with Johnny Cash on The Soundtrack

by | Oct 20, 2016

From FOX and director James Mangold (The Wolverine) comes the third and final solo film of the franchise – Logan. The highly anticipated X-Men spin-off feature will be the final time star Hugh Jackman will portray Wolverine and also stars Patrick Stewart, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez. It hits theaters March 3, 2017.

In 2024, mutant births are severely in decline, and people aren’t sure why. A government-type operation is turning mutant children into killing machines. From this, Logan emerges as a mentor to a mutant girl, who has two claws instead of his three.

How about that use of Johnny Cash’s Nine Inch Nails cover for ‘Hurt’ in this first trailer for Logan? Huh? You like that? Yeah you do. After watching this unbelievable preview for a movie that is obviously using very broad strokes of the ‘Old Man Logan’ comic storyline, I’m sorta OK with them going the route they did. The comic was a superhero mash-up which featured characters that FOX doesn’t have the rights to and it was quite the extreme look into a post-apocalyptic future run by villains like Dr. Doom and The Hulk family.

Here we have what looks like three main heroes only – Wolverine, Professor X and X-23 (the young girl who is Logan’s clone and has two claws). Comic fans will know that X-23 is in fact the new Wolverine – she took the classic yellow costume and everything. Since this is Hugh Jackman’s final time portraying Wolverine on the big-screen, it’s fitting that the torch will be passed to a new clawed hero. Most shocking of all, is how scaled back this mutant flick is compared to the others. It’s very, very stripped down. The Reaver villains don’t look over the top, there isn’t a hundred supporting characters with powers, it’s just Logan and Professor X trying to make sense of a world where their kind has been nearly wiped out. It looks incredible. Plus, any time you use ‘Hurt’ – you’re probably going to win me over pretty hard.
