The Shape of Water Trailer is Guillermo del Toro’s Love Letter to Classic Monster Movies

From Fox Searchlight Pictures and director Guillermo del Toro (Crimson Peak) comes the monstrous love story The Shape of Water. Starring Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer and Doug Jones, the film hits theaters December 8, 2017.

In 1963, in a hidden, high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda discover a secret classified experiment.

I’m shocked it took this many days to release the trailer online for Del Toro’s beautiful The Shape of Water flick after seeing it in theaters ahead of War For The Planet of The Apes. At first it struck me as an Abe Sapien spin-off from the Hellboy franchise, but that’s just the design similarities between Del Toro’s aquatic monsters… They do look damn close — and of course Doug Jones played both characters — but enough about that…

The Shape of Water looks super weird and I dig that — a love story between a deaf woman and a Gill Man monster. Leave it to Del Toro to constantly surprise us — I didn’t even know this movie was being made until I saw the preview. You can count me in — knowing how much Del Toro loves the classic monster movies, I can only imagine what this flick will look like when it releases before Christmas.
