Looking back on 2018, it wasn’t the strongest year for movies that we’ve had this decade. There were some really great films, but overall it was a bit underwhelming. In addition to underwhelming, we had some straight up awful movies to hit the theaters in 2018. Below is my list for the worst films of 2018.
10. The Cloverfield Paradox
The clever and sudden marketing campaign for this one was interesting. Dropping a trailer during the Super Bowl and releasing it on Netflix later that night? Absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately, The Cloverfield Paradox was a huge let down thanks to a muddled script and poor directing. It became clear by the end that this was originally a Sci-Fi B movie that they sloppily tied in with The Cloverfield Universe.
9. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
I hate that this movie made this list. What makes it so bad is that there is SO much talent behind it, yet it falls incredibly short of being magical and enticing. The script is below average and it simply feels like a lazy cash grab that focuses more on easter eggs for the Harry Potter Universe instead of being its own movie. Come on J.K…. You’re better than this. 🙁
8. Holmes and Watson
More people left during this movie than laughed during this movie. I think that’s all I need to say about this disappointing failure.
7. Peppermint
Jennifer Garner deserved a much better script for a movie like this. She has some really good moments but unfortunately, the rest is so bad that it made this list. Some of the worst editing of the year too.
6. The 15:17 to Paris
To this day, I still don’t believe that Clint Eastwood actually directed this piece of trash. You can’t change my mind.
5. Gotti
Let’s never forget that Gotti received a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s simply amazing. It’s almost so bad that its good, at least in a guilty pleasure way. Regardless, it is still one of the worst films to come out in 2018.
4. Insidious: The Last Key
What makes Insidious: The Last Key so bad is that it feels cheap. In the theater it was like watching a movie that should have went straight to Netflix. There were way too many jump scares too. I really hope they’re done making these.
3. Winchester
This movie was B O R I N G. The story behind the Winchester mansion is so interesting, but somehow this movie finds a way to put you to sleep. And when there are “scary moments”, they’re cheap jump scares that you have seen a million times. Helen Mirren and Jason Clarke you both are SO MUCH BETTER THAN THIS.
2. Fifty Shades Freed
THANK GOD THIS GARBAGE TWILIGHT FAN FICTION STORY IS OVER. THANK THE LORD. THIS MOVIE WAS ATROCIOUS AND I WISH I COULD UNSEE IT.
1. Truth or Dare
I really hope that the sequel is just a cliché and predictable as this awful movie. Truth or Dare is laughably bad. One of the worst screenplays of 2018, no doubt. I DARE you to watch paint dry instead of witnessing this horror movie train wreck. I promise you’ll have a better time.
