The Top 5 Indie Movies of 2017 (So Far)

Indie Films 2017

Indie Films are sometimes the best movies of the year. It is such a shame that so many people miss out on them in theaters. I have love and respect for movies that are made on extremely low budgets, but are exponentially better than movies with $50 million budgets. As the Summer comes to a close, it is only fitting to let everyone know which indie films they’ve missed out on so far in 2017.

5. Good Time

It actually frustrates me that Good Time is #5 and not #1 or #2. It is such a powerful film with some compelling themes and an Oscar worthy performance from Robert Pattinson. The problem is that the cinematography was so awful that I don’t think I will watch it again any time soon.  It is worth checking out for Robert Pattinson’s performance alone.

4. Columbus

Columbus is the most human film of 2017, hands down.  John Cho and Haley Lu Richardson had fantastic chemistry on-screen and the direction from rookie filmmaker Kogonada was very confident. This one is still in theaters, so go see it!

3. It Comes At Night

It Comes At Night was an awesome vision with some creepy imagery. There were numerous moments that had me on the edge of my seat. The only aspect that was a little disappointing was the fact that it left me wanting more. I wanted to see a little more of the infection in the outside world. Ultimately, this is a survival story and not a cliché horror movie, so it is easy to forgive It Comes At Night for not showing me everything I wanted to see.

2. Raw

Raw was the most bizarre, original coming of age story I’ve ever seen. There were so many moments that made me look away from the screen. It was paced very well and the story grabbed your attention at the very beginning.  Also, the ending was absolutely perfect.

1. A Ghost Story

A Ghost Story is the most thought-provoking movie of the year. I literally  walked out the theater in shock. It is such an original screenplay about life, death, and time. This is one of the few summer movies that will end up staying in my top 10 list for the entire year. Watch A Ghost Story ASAP.
