The Walking Dead 147: Eugene Craves Vengeance While Rick & Michonne Open Up [Review]

From writer Robert Kirkman and artist Charlie Adlard comes The Walking Dead comic series from Skybound and Image. Check out my review of issue #147.

The Walking Dead revolves around the life of Rick Grimes, a small-town police officer and his family, and a number of other survivors who have banded together in order to survive after the world is overrun with zombies.

Walking Dead 147 01

Eugene is royally pissed. I like how he’s coming up with ways to get back at Alpha and the whisperers – I mean, can you blame him? Rosita dead, her unborn child dead, tons of other people — super dead. Rick knows he can’t make a move due to the massive horde waiting nearby under enemy control. The people of Alexandria want to use or hurt Alpha’s daughter Lydia in order to get their revenge so Rick hatches a plan to move her to the Hilltop in order to protect her, knowing that she isn’t as mean or cruel as her previous group.

Much of issue 147 of The Walking Dead is transitional, set up and dialogue. The most important chunk of story is between Rick and Michonne where they both open up about their feelings of moving on and finding happiness. I was a little taken back to hear Rick say how he feels more connected to Andrea than he EVER did with Lori. I’m assuming that just means Andrea is finally on the chopping block after being one of the final few original survivors.

Michonne also has a breakthrough and she seems finally ready to accept that she can’t push others away in order to move on with her life and the recent death of Ezekial. Kirkman’s writing was strong here and having conversation drive this chapter is always a tricky deal for fans like myself who crave death, gore and chaos.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bored as of late, but that’s because the series is still trying to recover from the traumatic deaths from a while back. By the end of 147 I think we’re back into the good shit however and I’m hoping Eugene will get some of his vengeance — that dude doesn’t get a break and he deserves it. Plus I hate that dumbass Lydia. There I said it.
