From writer Robert Kirkman and artist Charlie Adlard comes The Walking Dead comic series from Skybound and Image. Check out my review of issue #152.
The Walking Dead revolves around the life of Rick Grimes, a small-town police officer and his family, and a number of other survivors who have banded together in order to survive after the world is overrun with zombies.
Rick is in full blown war propaganda mode and not only is he training everyone in Alexandria for a potential battle with the Whisperers, he’s seeing how his past actions are going to come back and bite him in the ass – but let’s get to that later. As issue #152 opens up we directly follow the shocking results where Eugene’s radio FINALLY FREAKING WORKS. He winds up having a bizarre conversation with someone else on the other end who seems a little too paranoid for their own good.
Eugene reveals some details to the other line, the one most fascinating to me is when he says his group has around 50 people and the person on the other line reveals that they have way more and that puts Alexandria at a disadvantage. Like I said – weird conversation and not one I expected. I doubt it’s the whisperers since they wouldn’t be screwing with radios considering they all like to walk around wearing zombie skin and being one with nature and all that shit.
Elsewhere, Rick runs into more trouble. Everybody seems to be picking a fight with the man these days… Robert Kirkman revealed an interesting bit of info in the Letter Hacks section by saying that the Rick Grimes of today will never be a fighter like he used to be – those days are over and he’ll be using his brain more often than his 1) teeth 2) hook arm or 3) cane. So it makes sense when this kid attacks him. I loved Rick’s retaliation and dialogue to this little shit. Some of Rick’s best stuff in months.
Charlie Adlard is drawing some great zombies once again in this issue and Kirkman seems to be gearing up quickly for something major. It’s been a little weird in the world of The Walking Dead lately – as I’m not sure how long this army building is going to take before anything truly happens between Rick’s crew and the whisperers and then there’s the most important issue of all – Negan still sitting in that cell.

I’ve been waiting for this day for so long. Kirkman has been teasing Negan fans unmercifully for months now as to whether or not we’d ever see the lovable lunatic freed from Rick’s creepy jail basement. As issue #152 comes to a close, the kid that Rick nearly strangled to death, the kid whose father Rick murdered after a botched assassination attempt on his own life not long ago, that little asshat redneck kid – walks into Rick’s home and frees Negan. After all of the teasing, all of the close calls, Negan is out and it’s fucking about fucking time fuckos.
