Marvel and Sony Pictures will release the next Spider-Man film July 28, 2017 from director Jon Watts (Cop Car) and starring Tom Holland (The Impossible).

After months of speculation, Marvel and Sony have found their new Spider-Man. As an added bonus they’ve recruited the promising new filmmaker Jon Watts to direct the THIRD reboot of this franchise. With Marvel taking over the creative reigns however – here’s hoping the third time’s truly a charm.

“I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent.  For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special.   All in all, we are off to a roaring start.” – Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman on selecting Jon Watts as director.

“Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world.  With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” – Producer Amy Pascal (Marvel) on Tom Holland’s casting.

Kevin Feige and his team at Marvel will produce the effort but Sony will finance it before it’s theatrical release on July 28, 2017.
