Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies For The Rest of 2019

by | Aug 26, 2019

2019 hasn’t been the strongest year for movies. There have been some fantastic movies to hit the big screen, but at the same time there have been several disappointments and forgettable flicks to come out. Not every year can be stellar, but luckily 2019 still have several months to make up for it. The back half of the year is stacked. Let’s take a look at 10 movies coming out in the next 4 months that everyone should be excited for.

10. 1917

Writer/director Sam Mendes strays away from the Bond films to release an intriguing film that follows two British soldiers during WWI who are giving an impossible mission to complete. The trailer is very promising and with actors such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Richard Madden, there is a good chance 1917 will be an intense movie.

9. Ford v Ferrai

Ford v Ferrari has the talent to receive multiple Oscar nominations. Director James Mangold, who blessed us with Logan in 2017, has put brought together two of Hollywood’s best actors in Christian Bale and Matt Damon. This one should be fun.

8. Doctor Sleep

Doctor Sleep is an interesting one on this list. Mainly because it’s not only on here because it could great, but it could also be a huge letdown and unnecessary sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s horror gem The Shinning. It is always risky to make a sequel to a movie from a director of that caliber, especially so many years later. Ewan McGregor in the lead role is a good choice and director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Hush, Gerald’s Game) has definitely proven himself as a poised horror director. Can he make the transition from Netflix to the big screen? We shall see.

7.  Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

A lot of people might have this one near the number one spot, but let’s face it….Star Wars fatigue is a real thing that many viewers are dealing with. The Last Jedi was hated by so many fans and that puts so much pressure on this installment. Excited for it? Sure. But honestly, we need a break.

6. Knives Out

This one will be short and sweet: You should be very excited for Knives Out because of the stacked, fabulous cast. That and the trailer promise a great time at the theater. Can’t wait for this one.

5. Ad Astra

The trailer for Ad Astra is so interesting because not only does it look like a gorgeous sci-fi movie, but also there is this vibe that we are in for something unexpected. Brad Pitt has had a great year already with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and he looks just as good in Ad Astra.

4. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Tom Hanks is on a relentless pursuit to portray everyone in history. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood looks amazing and Hanks likely has an Oscar nomination in his future for his role of Fred Rodgers. Will this be better than last year’s snubbed documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Hard to say right now. But after the trailer, it looks like we are in for an emotional ride.

3.  It: Chapter Two

The buzz around It: Chapter Two is already very promising. The terrifying trailers have been more than enough to have viewers in the theater on opening night. It appears to be even more thrilling than the first one and some of the Pennywise imagery shown hints that he will go down as one of the best horror antagonists of all time.

2. Joker

Joker looks absolutely amazing. Joaquin Phoenix looks to challenge Heath Ledger for the best portrayal of The Clown Prince of Crime, and if anyone can dethrone him, it’s Phoenix. Regardless of that, there is no doubt that we’re in for a wild ride with Joker.

1. The Lighthouse

Writer/Director Robert Eggers sure did make us wait for his follow up from 2016’s horror masterpiece The Witch. The early reviews praise The Lighthouse for its originality and incredible performances from William Dafoe and Robert Pattinson. On top of that, a black and white 35mm film release with an aspect ratio 1.19:1 is always something to be excited about. Based on the trailer, The Lighthouse looks to be a frontrunner for a Best achievement in Cinematography nomination from The Academy. Get excited for this one, folks.
