The 2016 San Diego Comic Con is officially over and all we are left with now is a slew of amazing trailers for upcoming flicks, crazy casting news, costume reveals and much more. Check out our top 10 #SDCC2016 reveals right here:

#8. Brie Larson Cast as Captain Marvel

It was revealed that Brie Larson (Room, Kong: Skull Island) has been cast as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel as Marvel’s latest addition to their cinematic universe. Not only will she have her own film, which is due for release March 8, 2019, but we can expect to see Brie Larson in the role when she cameos in Avengers: Infinity War, which hits theaters first on May 4, 2018.

In the comics, Danvers gets her superpowers after an accident involving Kree technology (which ties in with the Guardians of The Galaxy franchise and Avengers flicks). Fans have long been waiting for a female-led superhero Marvel movie and they will have to wait a little longer for Captain Marvel, but having Larson in the role is a strong and legit way to finally kick this off. She’s a superb choice.

From Legendary Pictures, Warner Bros and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts comes Kong: Skull Island. Starring Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman, Jing Tian, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Shea Whigham and Toby Kebbell, the film is scheduled for release March 10, 2017.

Suicide Squad is directed by David Ayer ( Fury) and stars Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman,  Viola Davis, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Common. Hot Toys has revealed their line of upcoming Suicide Squad figures and in the process probably dropped a big spoiler in regards to The Joker and Batman… Check it out below – as you can see it is indeed Jared Leto’s Joker donning Ben Affleck’s Batman suit – or a very similar reproduction of it. You know – it’s also completely messed up to make it the Joker’s own variation complete with purple and green colors. Hot Toys isn’t known to make their own figure variations, so you can likely expect this version of The Joker wearing a Batsuit to pop up in the film next month.

#2. Guardians of The Galaxy Casts Jimmy Urine from Mindless Self Indulgence & Reveals Starlord’s Father

From Marvel Studios and director James Gunn, comes the highly anticipated Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2. Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell. the movie is due for release May 5, 2017.

Director James Gunn unleashed a massive amount of story details and more for his upcoming Guardians of The Galaxy sequel. Head to his Facebook Page for the full rundown. Unfortunately for us at home – the footage that was shown to the crowd will not be released online due to some of the CGI not being finished. That’s OK considering the incredible amount of details revealed from the movie. Some of my favorite highlights include the following:

taserface

The Ravagers. This is a group of villains in the upcoming flick and two of them are played by people I love – Chris Sullivan (The Knick) as Taserface and Jimmy Urine as another Ravager called Half-Nut. Urine is the lead singer of Mindless Self Indulgence. Now, I know Jimmy is a friend of Gunn’s, but it’s still fucking amazing to me that he managed to cast the enigmatic frontman as a Marvel Comics villain in a major studio film. You have no idea how cool this truly is unless you’re a fan of MSI (they are incredible BTW).

Peter Quill, aka Starlord – is the son to the living planet Ego…. Yes, his father is a planet – named Ego – who is a living person. Ego will indeed be played by Kurt Russell as well… Now, Gunn admits that this is a bizarre situation but he said all will be revealed in the movie when it comes out… They did show the costume that Russell will be wearing in the film, so there will be a human-sized (maybe?) or at least human shaped version of Ego in the movie which is odd but not as odd as having Russell do voiceover for a massive purple planet head which somehow impregnated Quill’s mom.

Yondu has the full on mohawk. Just like his character in the comics, Michael Rooker showed up to SDCC2016 with the complete fin on his head – meaning Yondu will look even more closely like his source material counterpart. Bad-ass.
