Top 5 Comedies of 2018 Feat. The Favourite & Sorry to Bother You

by | Jan 3, 2019

2018 wasn’t the best year for comedy, but there were definitely some great ones. Some on this list came out at the beginning of the year, and a few are going to be major Oscar contenders. Let’s take a look at what I think are the best comedies of 2018.

5. Game Night

Game Night came out earlier this year, but it is without a doubt a comedy gem. The story is very clever and some of the scenes are laugh-out-loud hilarious. This is one of those movies that holds up very well on the second viewing.

4. Sorry to Bother You

Oh man….. This one was one of 2018’s weirdest movies. But there is so much about it to like. From the originality to the comedy and social commentary, Sorry to Bother You definitely remains on your mind for days after the viewing. Lakeith Stanfield is fantastic is his lead role.

3. Deadpool 2

Deadpool 2 is a whole lot of movie, but the amount of times that you’ll laugh out loud is incredibly high. Ryan Reynolds was born for this role, not to mention the supporting cast and certain cameos are priceless. Can’t wait for the next installment in this hilarious franchise.

2. Eighth Grade

Eight Grade might be the most relatable and charming film to come out this year. I don’t remember the last time I watched something that made me feel so personally attacked. Truly a hilariously engaging comedy and one of the year’s best.

1. The Favourite

Yorgos Lanthimos has an impressive track record original movies and some dark comedies. The Favourite is his best film to date and it is truly hilarious in the most authentic way. The best part about the comedy aspect of this period piece is that most of it is very subtle. On the second viewing it is even funnier as you pick up on so many little things. The Favourite will be a major Oscar contender.
