TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 06/08/16: CONSTANTINE, FLASH & HEAD LOPPER

Wednesday is here, and new comics are within reach. So you may be like me and still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week, but here is a list of new titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many readers I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. This week is the release of DC’s Rebirth, but I have chosen to highlight five other titles you should also be picking up this week, plus a few extras for those of you who did some background work in a car commercial.

Constantine The Hellblazer #13 – $2.99

Ming Doyle, James Tynion IV, Erik Donovan, Riley Rossmo

A fitting end for the most recent incarnation of John Constantine, with this weeks release of lucky issue 13. I have enjoyed this run writing duo of Ming Doyle and James Tynion IV, along with various artists. Fortunately, if you are a fan of James Tynion IV’s work, much like I am, this week is also the release of the Rebirth-ed Detective Comics, so don’t forget to pick up both books.

The Flash Rebirth #1 – $2.99

Joshua Williamson, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Karl Kerschl

I am still a bit of a skeptic when it comes to DC Comic’s Rebirth, but The Flash was the top book I knew I would be buying. There is something very exciting with Joshua Williamson at the helm of writing. Those not familiar with his work on Ghosted, Nailbiter or Birthright, be sure to check those out when you pick this book up. I remember Carmine Di Giandomenico’s artwork from Spider-man Noir, and am looking forward to his very energetic visuals for The Flash.

The Fix #3 – $3.99

Nick Spencer, Steve Lieber, Ryan Hill, Nic J Shaw

Roy moonlights as private security for a superstar actress. Superior Foes of Spider-Man-style hilarity from the team that brought you, um, Superior Foes of Spider-Man. We are nothing if not consistent!

Head Lopper #4 – $5.99

Andrew MacLean, Mike Spicer, Gabriel Ba

At long last, Norgal and Agatha face off against the demigod-sorcerer Barra, who proves to be much more able than his frail frame implies. Meanwhile, Lulach approaches with an entire army at his back, but does he come in support or opposition of Barra’s cause?

Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy #1 – $3.99

Chynna Clugston-Flores, Rosemary Valero-O’Connell, Maddi Gonzalez, Whitney Cogar, Mingjue Helen Chen, Warren Montgomery, Michelle Ankley

What is more to love than when two of your most recommended titles for younger reader come together to create the super comic of the summer. Only the combination of DC’s Gotham Acedemy meets the Lumberjanes can solve a mystery in the deep woods.

Extra Pulls: Black Canary #12, Merry Men #1, Vision #8, Weavers #2, The Wicked & The Divine #20
