Wednesday is here, and new comics are within reach (or maybe not if this weeks holiday messed with your local comic shops shipping schedule). If you are like me, you may still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week (or last month), but here is a list of new titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many readers I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. I have chosen to highlight five promising titles you should also be picking up this week, plus a few extras for those who picked up some overtime shifts because everyone else is on summer vacation.

blackhammer1Black Hammer #1- $3.99

Dark Horse Comics– Jeff Lemire, Dean Ormston, Dave Stewart

A new story from the prodigious brain of Jeff Lemire (Descender), amazingly realized by Dean Ormston (The Sandman) and Dave Stewart (Hellboy)!
Once they were heroes, but that age has long since passed. Banished from existence by a multiversal crisis, the old champions of Spiral City-Abraham Slam, Golden Gail, Colonel Weird, Madame Dragonfly, and Barbalien-now lead simple lives in a timeless farming town. Even as they try to find their way home, trouble has a unique way of finding heroes wherever they are!

Archie Comics – Adam Hughes, Cliff Chiang

It’s Betty vs. Veronica! The most highly-anticipated debut in comics history is here! Betty and Veronica are America’s sweethearts – until they turn on each other! Dream or reality? For a long time, teenager Orla Roche couldn’t tell them apart, and now THE HUNT is coming with its nightmare world of the restless dead. An intense story of survival, THE HUNT is a supernatural horror tale that will give Irish mythology a distinctly modern twist.

heartthrob4Heartthrob #4- $3.99

The heart wants what it wants and sometimes what it wants is to rob New York City of every thin dime.
