TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 02/24/16: TRANSFORMERS, BLOODSHOT & WYNONNA EARP

by | Feb 23, 2016

Wednesday is here, and new comics are within reach. So you may be like me and are still reading through the stack of comics from the last couple weeks, better make some room for these new titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those didn’t blow their comics allowance on seeing the Deadpool movie 5 times.

bloodshot11Bloodshot Reborn – $3.99

Jeff Lemire, Lewis LaRosa, Brian Reber, Ryan Sook

This week we get to see an action packed comic with two of my favorite Valiant characters, Bloodshot and Ninjak. The futuristic story continues as these two heroes look to bring down the technologically advanced G.A.T.E.. Bloodshot Reborn has been one of the more consistent Valiant titles in my opinion. Lemire has a strong story that is well planned. Even with a couple different artists at his side, the tone of the book has held true to what I would expect an action comics to have, even when there was a cartoon version causing havoc. If this future based story is a sample of what to expect from Valiant’s next crossover, 4001 A.D., then readers should be taking notice.

strayer2Strayer #2 – $3.99

Justin Jordan, Juan Gedeon, Tamra Bonvillain, Rachel Deering

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Strayer made the top picks after the great start of issue 1. With a combination of strong writing from Justin Jordan, great artwork from Juan Gedeon, and with splashes of colour from the talented Tamra Bonvillain. There is a reason Aftershock Comics is going to be publisher to keep an eye on, this is one of many great teams of creators making wonderful comics. I cannot wait to see what is in store for the two characters as they continue their journey.

saga34Saga #34 – $2.99

Brian K. Vaughan, Fiona Staples

I feel like I have run out of amazing things to say about this book. I just want to use a bunch of Emojis instead, but I don’t think Saga Emojis exist. But they should. Just buy the book.

transformers50Transformers #50 – $7.99

John Barber, Andrew Griffith, Casey W. Coller, Jonathan Hickman

I have heard a lot of great thing about this book, and although I haven’t read a single issue of the series, I am confident that a title that can reach a fiftieth issue is well worth celebrating. So show some support for this creative team, pick up this weeks release, there are some great variant covers to choose from. Additionally, if you are like myself hunt down the trade paper backs and indulge in some nostalgic 80s cartoon action.

wyonnaearp1Wyonna Earp #1 – $3.99

Beau Smith, Lora Innes, Jay Fotos

Just in time for the new Syfy television series be sure to pick up Wyonna Earp. An all new story from creator Beau Smith, this descendant of Wyatt Earp is part of an elite division of the US Marshalls that is responsible for handling and controlling supernatural forces. So if you are interested in a western, science fiction involving vampires, zombies and werewolves then this book is probably for you.
