Wednesday is nearly here, and new comics are within reach. So you may be like me and are still reading through the stack of comics from the last couple weeks, better make some room for these new titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that managed to take home the gold for their Oscar pools.
Andrew Wheeler, Paulina Ganucheau
I know it goes against the age old saying, but it was the flashy colours of this first issues cover that really sold me on this book. I think of this book a little like a fairy tale, but with a bit more grit. Forget the damsel in destress and try and imagine a stronger Princess opposing the forces the neighbouring kingdom. I love Paulina Ganucheau’s work on Zodiac Starforce, so I hope this will be worthy substitute for that book until new issues are released.
Chris Samnee, Mark Waid, Matt Wilson, Joe Caramagna
I am not buying many Marvel titles recently, but Black Widow is going to be an exception. This book reunites the fantastic creative team of Mark Waid, Chris Samnee and Matt Wilson, known for their amazing work on multiple runs of Daredevil. It will be great to see what these guys can do with a character like Natasha Romanoff, and dig into her past as both a spy and SHIELD agent. Join in on this epic chase as Black Widow attempts to uses years of experience to elude her past and uncover the answers she seeks.
Donny Cates, Dylan Burnett, Dee Cunniffe
If you are like a few of us here at Fox Force Five, and were excited to see all the love Mad Max; Fury Road got at the Oscars this last week, then you should be checking out Interceptor from Heavy Metal. This Sci-fi, post-apocalyptic story take a highly advanced race of vampires, and puts them against a gang of rebel humans with the aid of mech suits. Rooted with vampire mythology, Interceptor’s battle scenes are what keeps me coming back to this story.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 – $3.99
Kyle Higgins, Steve Orlando, Hendry Prasetya, Corin Howell, Jamal Campbell
We got a bit of a taste for what is to come in this new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic with the premier #0 issue. Now it is time to kick things up a notch and see what Rita Repulsa has in store for the Rangers. Kyle Higgins does a great job bringing the original feel of the television show into the pages with his writing. This in combination with Hendry Prasetya’s art, creates a mood that any classic fan or newcomer will love. Plus, readers have a myriad of variant cover options to choose from, personally I will be looking forward the to GOLD FOIL cover by Paul Pope.
Kate Leth, Eman Casallos, Jay Anacleto
Next up on Dynamite Entertainments rebooted characters is Vampirella. With Kate Leth at the helm, this book is sure to be an interesting fresh take on the classic character. The story follows the Queen of Vampires, as she uncovers an age old mystery of Hollywood, and takes down demons and monsters in the process. Dynamite has had pretty good success with the previously re-imagined Red Sonja and Dejah Thoris, and I have faith that Vampirella will do just as well.
