TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 03/08/17: GRASS KINGS, D4VEOCRACY & REDLINE

Wednesday is here again, which means a new week for new comics. If you are like me, you may still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week, but how can anyone fault us for reading. Here is a list of books I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many readers I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult when there are so many quality books being published each week. So here are 5 titles to consider picking up this week.

D4VEocracy #2 – $3.99

IDW Publishing – Ryan Ferrier, Valentin Ramon

With the internet now coursing through his circuits, S4M makes his public debut as a presidential candidate. Meanwhile, D4VE’s campaign trail gets rough when scandal rocks his public image, forcing the planet to choose a side. But for app developer bro GL3NN, world domination might be just a click away.

Grass Kings #1 – $3.99

BOOM! Studios – Matt Kindt, Tyler Jenkins, Fiona Staples

From The New York Times bestselling writer Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT) and Peter Panzerfaust artist Tyler Jenkins comes a rural mystery series chronicling the tragic lives of the Grass Kings, three brothers and rulers of a trailer park kingdom, a fiefdom of the hopeless and lost, of the desperate poor seeking a promised land.

Eldest brother Robert leads a grief-stricken life, having lost his daughter to a tragic accident, followed by his wife disappearing one morning never to return.
When an enigmatic young woman named Maria flees to their community in search of safe haven, Robert takes her in. Will his decision lead to ruin and retribution dooming the Kingdom?

Kingpin #2 – $3.99

Marvel Comics – Matthew Rosenberg, Ben Torres, Jordan Boyd, Travis Lanham, Jeff Dekal

IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW WILSON FISK, THINK AGAIN!
•  WILSON FISK’s criminal past has tarnished his public image, but to move beyond it, Fisk must face the demons of his past…and convince the world he’s changed!
•  Writer SARAH DEWEY has conflicted feelings about helping him turn over this new leaf…but is Fisk’s promise of complete transparency and a big (legal) pay day too good for Sarah to pass up?
•  This is the Kingpin in all his brutal honesty…the man, the murderer, the criminal…and the good Samaritan?!

Mother Panic #4 – $3.99

DC Comics – Jody Houser, Shawn Crystal, Jean-Francois Beaulieu, John Workman, Tommy Lee Edwards

Mother Panic isn’t the only one hunting for revenge in the streets of Gotham City. The terrifying Pretty is after the next name on Violet Paige’s hit list. But is he a friend or foe-and how is he connected to the mysterious Gather House that made Violet who she is?

Redline #1 – $3.99

ONI Press – Neal Holman, Clayton McCormack, Kelly Fitzpatrick, David Kuettel, Kat Stockton

MARS. The near future-ish. A bomb takes out a city block on Harrison Station. The media rush to blame the local terrestrials (re:aliens,) however Superintendent Denton Coyle has a feeling that it may not be so simple… or maybe that feeling is Coyle’s hangover gut bomb. It’s unclear… like a 50/50 shot, it’s a mistake or explosive diarrhea. Maybe it’s both? In other words, it’s yet another Tuesday on Mars.

Extra Pulls: Detective Comics #952, Harrow County #21, Motorcrush #4, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #18, The Wicked + The Divine #27
