Wednesday is here, and new comics are within reach. So you may be like me and are still reading through the stack of comics from the last couple weeks, better make some room for these new titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week and a couple honorary mentions for saving some cash by not traveling to Emerald City ComicCon this weekend.
Ta-Nehisi Coates, Brian Stelfreeze, Laura Martin, Joe Sabino
The long awaited Black Panther series is finally here. Ever since Marvel announced its “All-New, All-Different” lineup many month ago, this has been a book I have been excited about. With Ta-Nehisi Coates on writing duties and Brian Stalfreeze on art this book should live up to my expectations. After a long absence, Black Panther, T’Challa, has returned to Wakanda to be its ruler as it is confronted by a new group of superhuman terrorists. This creative team will be a great foundation for the future of this character.
Ryan Ottley, Ivan Plascencia
Grizzly Shark Returns! If you are like me, and not familiar with the concept originally created by Ryan Ottley and Jason Howard, now is a great time to jump on board. This first issue is a colour reprint of the one-shot SEA BEAR GRIZZLY SHARK released in 2010, and will be followed by two all new stories. Let loose and be sure to watch your back the next time you’re hiking through the woods, Grizzly Shark could be on the hunt.
Donny Cates, Dylan Burnett, Dee Cunniffe, Adam Gorham
You would think stories about vampires of giant robots would be boring by now, but heroines in mech suits going to battle against a city of vampires sounds pretty amazing. I’ve been loving the comics Heavy Metal has been putting out there, and you should make sure you’re reading them too.
Adam Glass, Pat Oliffe
Firstly, only $1.99! This alone should grab your attention. An All-Star team of Theodore Roosevelt, Harry Houdini, Annnie Oakley and Jack Johnson joining together to participate in a secret mission to prevent war against an alien invasion. It is hard to say no to a story with magic, gun slinging and aliens. These are the untold stories of some of histories most famous characters before they became famous.
Sean Lewis, Ben Mackey
The cult hit continues on its Holy Way as the Saints and Prophets continue to battle amongst the rise of the Children’s Crusade! Who will survive? Which side will save the World from certain demise?
