Top 5 Comics to Buy – 05/20/15 Includes Bloodshot Reborn & Archie vs Predator

by | May 20, 2015

It is Wednesday again, I am looking at the stack of comics I have not had the chance to read from the week(s) previous, and here I am making a list of titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that found some extra cash in their pocket.

Archie vs Predator #2 – $3.99

Following their vacation, Archie and the gang from Riverdale return home, but the technologically advanced alien Predator is close behind. It is not everyday we get treated to a comic cross-over such as this, so take advantage of what writer Alex de Campi and the art team have to offer. We will see how the Predators hunt is when he has to go up against the folks of Riverdale (really hoping Archies secret weapon is Alien).

aforce1

A-Force #1 – $3.99

Secret Wars is upon us, and judging by the content I have seen so far this could be one of the best Marvel events I have read. A comic written by the dynamic duo of G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel) and Marguerite Bennett (Sleepy Hollow) with art from Jorge Molina (Avenger World) about an Avengers team consisting of She-Hulk, Medusa, Dazzler, Spider-Woman and Scarlet Witch, to name a few, defending an island within Battleworld from the Marvel Zombie horde is likely to be anything but boring.

bloodshot2

Bloodshot Reborn #2 – $3.99

You will want to pick this book up, if not to better familiarize yourself with the Bloodshot character that will be exploding into theatres in 2017, then for the amazing storytelling of Jeff Lemire. Spinning out of the four part mini-series The Valiant, Bloodshot continues to adjust to his new life as a nanite-less man. I look forward to seeing how Bloodshot can cope with this new life and whether he can still be the unstopped weapon he once was. I am also hoping for 100% more Bloodsquirt!

battleworld1

Battleworld #1 – $3.99

I have been looking forward to this Battleworld book, as Ed Brisson (Cluster) takes on writing Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk, Punisher and Ghost Rider. I typically wouldn’t take the risk with these event side stories, they can often be hit or miss, but the premise set up in Secret Wars #1 & #2 has peaked my curiosity. I am expecting a ton of action in these pages, plus the added bonus of every M.O.D.O.K. from various timelines should provide craziness and be a lot of fun.

ultimateend1

Ultimate End #1 – $3.99

This book happens to be another tie-in with Marvel’s ongoing Secret Wars, though this should not be too much of a surprise at this point, since the event effects almost every Marvel title. This book marks the end of the Ultimate Comic era. The Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley run of Ultimate Spider-Man is one of my favorites, and it is fitting that these two have rejoined forces to bring this story to a close. It will be interesting to see how this epic conclusion comes together and where Miles Morales finds himself at the end.

Extra pulls: The Fade Out #6, Wytches #6, Uncanny X-men #34, Ninjak #3 & Star Wars #5.
