Top 5 Comics to Buy – 05/27/15: Fight Club 2, Pisces & Where Monsters Dwell

by | May 26, 2015

It is Wednesday again, I am looking at the stack of comics I have not had the chance to read from the week(s) previous, and here I am making a list of titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash from that old stereo they sold.

All-New Hawkeye #3 – $3.99

hawkeye3What?! An ongoing Marvel comic that isn’t a Secret Wars tie-in? That’s correct folks, one of very few books not affected by the event. Jeff Lemire and Ramon Perez have done a great job delivering a solid story in the previous two issues of this book. Lemire continues to show this excellent storytelling abilities, while Perez stuns with his stunning watercolour spreads. Following the amazing run Matt Fraction had, this book holds its own in offering readers an “All-New” look Hawkeye’s life.

Fight Club 2 #1 – $3.99fightclub21

Almost 20 years since Chuck Palahniuk’s best selling book Fight Club was originally published, he has turned to the comic book medium to continue the story of Tyler Durden. This second part to the story occurs ten years after the first, and it sounds like Tyler cannot be suppressed much longer. We will see what damage Tyler can cause to upset life in the suburbs.

Old Man Logan #1 – $4.99oldmanlogan

Another piece of Battleworld to explore, Old Man Logan takes place in the territory known as Wasteland. Following the plot of Mark Millar’s original series of the same name, this story takes place in a future where all heroes have been wiped out by their arch-enemies. Let’s see what writer Brian Michael Bendis can do to put a bit of a spin on the previous version and how that ties back in to Secret Wars and Doom.

Pisces #2 – $3.99Pisces_02_c-1

Dillon, a Vietnam War veteran, continues to cope with life after the war, but there is more to his haunting dreams. With flashes of what could be an alternate life/time, Kurits J. Weibe (Rat Queens) continues to reveal where this ominous darkness stems from and how it is linked to Dillon and his past.

Where Monster Dwell #1 – $3.99Where-Monsters-Dwell-1-Cover-7151f

Garth Ennis should be enough of a reason to put this on your must read list this week. Taking its name from the 1970s book, Ennis sends us to the Valley of Flame, a Battleworld territory that borders The Shield, to see how Phantom Eagle survives biplane dogfights and a terrian overflowing with prehistoric predators.

Extra pulls: Inhumans: Attilan Rising #1, Material #1, Divinity #4, Captian Canuck #1 & Sons of the Devil #1.
